CSEA participates at the 2026 National Teachers’ Summit

The Federal Ministry of Education organised a two-day National Teachers' Summit on January 27-28, 2026, at the State House Banquet Hall in Aso Villa, Abuja. The summit, themed "Empowering Teachers, Strengthening the System: A National Agenda for Education Transformation and Sustainability,"  convened dignitaries including Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, alongside prominent government officials, education stakeholders, and development partners. The Centre for the Study of the Economies of Africa (CSEA) was represented by Dr. Oluwatosin Edafe (Research Fellow), and Martin Ufi (Research Associate).

The summit served as a forum for paper presentations on teacher empowerment and system-wide education reforms. It also featured the launch of a comprehensive two-pronged framework aimed at improving professional teaching standards and learning outcomes, as well as  the  introduction of Teacher Investigating Panels. The First Lady formally launched the EduRevamp Online Teacher Professional Development Portal, designed to strengthen continuous professional development and improve learning outcomes  across the country.. Selected Teachers from across the six geopolitical zones were recognised for their exceptional expertise, with prizes awarded in  two categories: basic education and senior secondary education. 

CSEA co-sponsored the summit alongside other organisations.. The Centre’s participation  provided valuable insights into current national priorities on teacher welfare, professional development, and education system reform, all of which are closely related to the Centre's research and policy engagement agenda. The summit concluded with the presentation of a formal communiqué outlining key resolutions and policy directions.
