CSEA PARTICIPATES IN THE WORLD BANK CONFERENCE ON AFRICA

CSEA participated in the 5th annual bank conference on Africa (ABCA), organized jointly by the World Bank (Office of the Chief Economist for the Africa Region), and the Stanford Center on Global Poverty and Development.

The conference tagged “Examining the Challenges and Opportunities of Firms’ Productivity in Africa”, provided a platform for participants to discuss various issues pertinent to firms in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Dr. Grace Onubedo presented a paper on “Finance and Firm Productivity in Africa”. The event held in Stanford, California, on June 14-15, 2018.

YOUTH, PEACE AND SECURITY IN AFRICA: THE MISSING PIECE

Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) hosted a panel discussion with distinguished West African experts on the implementation of Resolution 2250. Precious Akanonu was a panelist at this event which provided a platform for participants to share their insights, research focus, and country situations.

While Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace, and Security agendawhich held in 2015, was a milestone, there needs to be more effort to fully translate its provisions into practice. The recently published progress study on youth’s positive contributions to peace processes and conflict resolution offers important recommendations and tangible responses at local, national, regional and international levels.

This event featured various discussions on this issues; participants also held talks with key experts working on the Youth, Peace, and Security agenda in the UN community.

CSEA Participates In The SIIS Africa Forum 2018

CSEA participated in the second annual conference of the SIIS Africa Forum 2018. The event was organized by the Shang Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) with the theme “International Development Cooperation in Africa: Achievements, Challenges and Prospects”. It provided a platform for various stakeholders to discuss and make valuable impact on policy-making, economic and social interactions between China, Africa and the international society. Key issues discussed during the sessions include: International Partnership and African Development, Development Finance in Africa, Security and Development Nexus in Africa; The Belt and Road Initiative and African Development. The event also featured a session which provided recommendations for the upcoming Forum on China African Cooperation (FOCAC Summit 2018). CSEA Hosts The 8th African Policy Circle (APC) Meeting in Abuja

CSEA hosted the 8th Download File">African Policy Circle (APC) Meeting in Abuja, Nigeria from 24-25 May, 2018. The meeting which met on the theme: “Forced Migration within and out of Africa: Innovative Solutions from African Civil Society and Think-tanks”, was supported by the Konrad Adenauer Stifung (KAS) and Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi).

The main objective of the meeting was to provide a platform for African think-tanks and civil society organizations to share knowledge and discuss strategies as well as develop actionable recommendations for policymakers to meaningfully address the problem of forced migration within and out of Africa.

Participants working on issues on peace and security, migration, development, policy research and human rights, participated in the meeting and deliberated on key issues whilst providing recommendations on forced migration within the African continent.

CSEA participates in the South-South Global Thinkers Meeting

The United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) and UNDP, hosted a meeting on “Investing in the Sustainable Development Goals through South-South and Triangular Cooperation: Promoting conducive policy and legal environments in Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States”. The specific objective of the meeting was to identify and formulate a research agenda for the South-South Global Thinkers, a Global Coalition of Think Tank Networks for South-South Cooperation. The event brought together over 80 participants from government, thinks tanks and private sector in which they were collectively able to identify challenges and good practices in policy and legal areas that can facilitate better South-South investment for sustainable development. Think Tank networks members through this event were able to identify and formulate a research agenda on South-South investment. The aim of such research is to inform better policy-making to promote investment within the region and beyond. The final research developed will be used to influence policy discussions on South-South and triangular cooperation including discussions in preparations for the upcoming Second High-level United Nations Conference on South-South cooperation to be held in Buenos Aires in March 2019.
