CSEA joins key stakeholders at the ACTG event in Abuja

CSEA Research Associate Anthony Okon attended a one-day stakeholder engagement event organized by the African Centre for Tax and Governance (ACTG) in collaboration with the Local Government Revenue Initiative (LoGRI) and the International Centre for Tax and Development (ICTD) in Abuja on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. The event focused on a property tax project in Ekiti, Kaduna, and Niger states, bringing together stakeholders, including revenue authorities and relevant ministries, to discuss the challenges and opportunities in property taxation in Nigeria.

CSEA attends the 2024 Gatefield Health Summit

CSEA’s Director of Research, Dr. Adedeji Adeniran, attended the 2024 Gatefield Health Summit in Abuja, Nigeria on October 22, 2024.

The summit brought together a diverse group of industry experts, policymakers, and public health leaders from government, international organizations, civil society, and the private sector.

This event served as a platform for participants to discuss the rising epidemic of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Nigeria and other low- and middle-income countries, shaping the health agenda and exploring innovative solutions.

Dr. Adedeji participated as a panelist in a session focused on the critical role of pro-health taxes in financing the prevention and treatment of NCDs.

Charting a Sustainable Future: Highlights from the 10th Africa Think Tank Summit

CSEA’s Director of Research, Dr Adedeji Adeniran, attended the 10th Africa Think Tank Summit, organized by the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, from October 8 to 11, 2024.

This summit also celebrated the 10th anniversary of the event, which has facilitated knowledge sharing and collaboration among Think Tanks, influenced policy decisions, informed development strategies, and fostered innovative solutions to Africa's most pressing challenges.

The event brought together think tanks, policymakers, researchers, and private sector leaders to reflect on past achievements and lessons learned while charting a course for the next decade of collaboration under the theme “Evidence-Based Strategies for Sustainable Climate Financing in Africa."

Dr. Adedeji Adeniran participated as a panelist in a side event focusing on the topic "Cultivating a Smoke-Free Future: Aligning AfCFTA and Tobacco Control Policies."

CSEA hosts a two-day conference on “Harnessing Data Governance for National and Regional Development

CSEA hosted a two-day workshop on Data protection and Privacy, in partnership with NDPC Nigeria, Baze University and African University of Science and Technology on 23-24 July 2024 at the CSEA conference hall, Abuja. The workshop featured training on the fundamentals of data privacy and protection, cybersecurity and data governance in Africa. It also convened experts and stakeholders who discussed key issues like; digitalization, how AFCFTA can support data governance and strategies for leveraging data governance to boost development in Nigeria and Africa.

Tobacco Control Stakeholder Validation Meeting in DRC (TCDI 2.0)

On August 30, 2024, CSEA, represented by Dr. Adedeji Adeniran and Adaora Ofodum, participated in a stakeholder validation meeting for the Tobacco Control Data Initiative (TCDI 2.0). This meeting, held in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, was in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH).
The purpose of the gathering was to review the TCDI initiatives and discuss the incorporation of new themes into the DRC dashboard. Patrice Milambo, Director of the national program to combat drug addiction and toxic substances from the MOH, delivered the opening remarks, while Patrick Shamba Bakengela PhD, DG Country Lead in DRC, provided an introduction outlining the objectives of TCDI 1.0 and 2.0.
Dr. Adeniran gave an overview of CSEA and its role in TCDI 2.0, while Adaora outlined CSEA's responsibilities and expectations as a sustainability partner for the initiative. By the end of the meeting, two new themes were selected for the dashboard: “Prevention and Awareness” and “Shisha and New Products”.
