Nigeria Economic Update (Issue 18)

The monthly report by the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) on the global movement in oil prices revealed that crude oil prices increased in April 2023. Specifically, the OPEC Reference Basket (ORB) increased, on average, from $78.45/Barrel in March 2023 to $84.13/Barrel in April 2023. This represents an increase of about 7.2 percent.

Nigeria Economic Update (Issue 9)

The naira depreciated by 8.2 percent from N305/$ on February 5th, to N330/ $ on February 12th 20166. The apex body identified the increased domestic demand for forex to pay for foreign medical treatments and schools fees (15 percent of total demand) 7 as the main drivers. As a result, the apex bank is considering to discontinue the provision of forex for payment of medical bills and school fees abroad and to re-channel the forex towards the manufacturing sector of the economy. With the continuous depreciation of the naira, and the CBNs resistance from calls to devalue the currency, the options for alternatives measures seem to be diminishing.

Nigeria Economic Review (First Half Report 2015)

The modest growth in the global output witnessed in the first quarter of 2015 was driven mainly by advanced economies, particularly the United States. Growth slowed down significantly in emerging and developing economies, primarily natural resource-dependent countries which were adversely affected by falling commodity prices.
