Prof. Okonjo: Celebrating the life and achievements of CSEA’s first Board Chairman

Representatives from CSEA joined family, friends and other dignitaries for a memorial and thanksgiving service to celebrate the life of His Royal Majesty, Professor Chukuka Okonjo, the Obi of Ogwashi-Ukwu Kingdom in Delta State on December 21, 2019.

Prof Okonjo was the pioneer chairman of the CSEA’s Board of Trustees since its inception in 2008. He was a renowned professor of mathematics, an astute education administrator and a prolific author of many mathematics and general science books.

In the course of his rich and rewarding career, he served in many positions, including: Head, Department of Economics and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Nigeria, Nsukka;  Founder and Director of the Center for Population Studies, University of Nigeria, Nsukka; Economic Adviser, Economic Commission for Africa (ECA); Professor of Economics, University of Ghana, Legon among others.

As the first chair of CSEA’s Board, his outstanding leadership set the Centre on a unique path. CSEA would continue to honor his impact, quintessential leadership and immense contributions to the advancement of the Centre.

Prof. Okonjo was born June 21, 1928, in Ogwashi-Ukwu, Delta State, Nigeria and passed on at the age of 91.
