Health Burden and Economic Cost of Smoking in Nigeria

The Centre for the Study of the Economies of Africa (CSEA) organized a report dissemination workshop of our recently concluded research study on “Fostering Effective Tobacco Control Policy Implementation in Nigeria”, which was commissioned by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada.
The overall aim of the research study is to provide research and advocacy
toward the design and implementation of an effective tobacco control policy in Nigeria, using technical local evidence. Specifically, this workshop highlighted findings from our report titled, “The Health Burden and Economic Cost of Smoking in Nigeria”.
It also provided a platform for participants to discuss in-depth, how research and advocacy can be linked more to policy during the second session tagged, “Developing research-advocacy-policymaking nexus on the Tobacco Control Programmes: Taking stock of progress, problems and potential solutions”.
