CSEA Participates In 2017 AROCSA Conference

The Association for Research on Civil Society in Africa (AROCSA) in collaboration with the Association for Research Non-Profits & Voluntary Action (ARNOVA) convened researchers and practitioners in civil society, in its maiden conference to explore contemporary issues of African agency, given the current global trends.

The theme of the conference was Africa in a Changing Global Context:People, Production and Politics.The main objective of the conference was to promote an active learning exchange of information and ideas between researchers and practitioners of civil society organisations, establish key recommendations that inform policy on the way forward in African also provided a platform for experience-sharing and networking amongst academics, researchers, civil society practitioners and policymakers.

The meeting also sought to provide a new look at theoretical models and frameworks that describe and predict African agency in a global context, in a bid to chart a new research relevant to the theme. It also provided an opportunity for practitioners to see what works outside the contexts of their environments and how they can adapt to other models.

CSEA was represented by Adedeji Adeniran who made two paper presentations on Effect of Electoral competition on poverty: Empirical Evidence from the Nigerian States and New Directions of Philanthropy in Africa: Dealing with the threats and opportunities.

The event held from 27th -29th July 2017, hosted by the Wits School of Governance, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg in partnership with CIVICUS and funded by the FORD Foundation.
